Why some little ones need time to warm up
Hi families,
Some little ones walk into class ready to jump right in. Others need a little more time.
They might stay close to you at first. They may watch quietly, take in the room, and listen before joining. That is so normal.
In fact, I often see that it takes about 3 to 4 weeks for some children to really settle into a new class.
That doesn't mean anything is wrong. It just means they are getting oriented in their own way.
As an introverted child myself, I've always had a soft spot for the children who like to observe first. Honestly, I still relate to that. Some of us like to watch, listen, and understand what's going on before we fully jump in.
And young children are no different.
What may look like “hanging back” is often actually:
watching closely
learning the flow of class
getting to know the teacher
noticing the music and routines
deciding when it feels safe to join
That quiet observing is part of the process too.
At Ladybug, we make space for all kinds of children, the ones who leap in right away, and the ones who take their time.
Again and again, I've seen the child who stays close for the first few classes begin to sing, move, smile, and participate once they feel more comfortable.
It's a lovely thing to watch.
So if your little one is still warming up, you are not alone, and they are not behind.
They may be taking it all in more deeply than you realize.
